Plaxico Burress is in jail.
The “accidental shooting” involved Plaxico carrying a concealed weapon in the club which slid out of his waistband and down his leg. In an attempt to secure the weapon, Plaxico inadvertently grabbed the trigger, causing the gun to fire and subsequently shooting himself in the leg. I believe that it was the events that followed the shooting and not the shooting itself that actually led to his 2 year prison sentence.
Plaxico was treated and released from a New York hospital and turned himself in to authorities the following day. Once it was noted that the Police hadn’t been notified by neither the club or the hospital that treated Plaxico’s injuries, NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg was so outraged that he urged that Burress be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, saying that any punishment short of the minimum 3½ years for unlawful carrying of a handgun would be “a mockery of the law”.
