Has America’s fascination with Wendy Williams new television program, The Wendy Williams Show come to end? That’s the buzz around the net as reports are surfacing that her new daytime talk show is getting pummeled in the ratings.
Apparently with the huge influx of mediocre talk shows hitting TV land this season, Wendy’s show may be suffering at the hands of one Mrs. Wanda Sykes.
Per Queerty.com:
Sykes’s new Saturday night Fox show is supposedly stealing celeb bookings from Williams, who’s seen her ratings dwindle after a much-hyped premiere. Along with Monique’s talk show, Sykes is supposedly nabbing the high profile guests Williams’s producers have been angling for.
Just how big a problem is it? Even RuPaul — who’s suddenly back on everyone’s radar thanks to Drag Race — opted not to take part in Williams’s Halloween special. That doesn’t necessarily mean Ru is headed to Wanda’s show; but Williams clearly isn’t the draw her producers thought it would be.
Some are also arguing Mrs. Wendy’s inexperience on television is contributing to the show’s demise, a charge I don’t necessarily agree with because while many of you may have forgotten, Oprah Winfrey wasn’t “Oprah” when her show first hit TV back in the 1980’s.
And though I have always been a fan of Mrs. Wendy, even I can’t argue the lackluster guests that have “blessed” her show. Joan and Melissa Rivers, Vanessa Williams, David Letterman’s Paul Schaffer; There’s not much appeal.
I mean hell even Bonnie Hunt and Mo’nique are getting more A-B list entertainers. And to make matters worse, Wendy’s syndication episodes on BET aren’t gaining much interest as her show’s ratings have dropped a staggering 14%. And that’s after a recent move to a new time slot.
But don’t cry for her Argentina because I hear she’s currently negotiating a deal to return to radio via XM/Sirius Satellite Radio very soon. And nobody is eying a cancellation of Wendy anytime soon.
Either way I think Mrs. Wendy will be good. I hear she’s locked into a long standing contract with Debmar-Mercury, the production company that produces the show.
