Atlanta rapper — and former teen idol — Soulja Boy was arrested in Temple, Georgia, yesterday and is currently facing drug and gun possession charges after a routine traffic stop turned up weed and a firearm in the SUV the rapper was traveling in with four other men. While SB caught a fresh case, the media reaction to the ordeal was routine and sadly predictable.
Though the rapper born DeAndre Cortez Way now has a new legal headache on his hands, much of which can be chalked up to poor judgment on his part, I’m more concerned with the way the media–TMZ, in particular–handled the story. It has become somewhat troubling to see how twisted and cynical we in the media handle the social irresponsibility of today’s stars.
After breaking the Soulja Boy arrest story, TMZ produced another story questioning if Soulja’s arrest was a good thing for his career. With a new documentary about the Interscope Records signee, titled Soulja Boy: The Movie, gearing up for release, the assumption that something as negative as being arrested for an illegal drug and firearm is a positive happening speaks to the way much of today’s society views bad things as being good. It’s a glass-half-full mentality that forces many of our stars to behave irresponsibly given that there is a chance they can gain positively from a crooked deed.
Yo what pisses me off about this little guy you all call Soulja Boy? It’s his failure to ever admit and or take this sh*t seriously. Yesterday I already told you all about DeAndre Way and his homophobic and extremely racist rant via his facebook page.
Well true to form Soulja Boy is lashing out today at what he calls a “hack” to his social media accounts.
Here’s what he has to say:
“I wanted to clear the air and let everyone know that my Facebook got hacked. He explained. “I had administrators on my account that no longer work with me. The hackers used these old accounts to post hateful messages. This was not done by me or anyone on my team and I’m upset that I am being labeled as a racist and homophobic person.”
First off I don’t believe you one bit DeAndre Way and here’s why:
1. This recent acctivity isn’t outside the realm of your own behavior. You say and do outrageous and offensive things — despite having a super young and impressionable audience– to keep your name in the media no matter how it makes you look.
2. You chose to eff around with the now deported Kat Stacks. That alone proves that your judgement is so far off to salvage
3. BECAUSE YOU DID IT!
Why I waste my time on this young kid is beyond me. Perhaps deep down I already see the life. It’s the greatest story ever told. We’ve seen it 1000 times in this game.
I can’t believe that after all these years I am STILL reporting on Atlanta’s sad case Soulja Boy. And never on anything positive. I thought he’d learn a thing or two by now. Clearly he hasn’t. And its also clear that there’s nobody in his camp who truly gives a damn or this little guy would be handled by now.
SB took to his facebook pageon a racist and potentially homophobic rant recently. I’m not even going to waste my brain cells on trying to ascertain what its all about. Actually I already know what is. It’s a lack of self respect, and refusing to the role of being a role model.
Here’s a little of what he had to say:
Haters are so fucking stupid! “i dont like soulja boy so im gonna like his facebook and wait till he post a video to be the 1st one to comment” n***a get the fuck out of here go get some pussy and stop being a lame.
Pussy ass white boys make me sick man. LET A BLACK MAN SHINE AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE!!! DAMN YALL ALREADY GOT MONEY AND LIVING RIGHT STOP HOLDING US BLACK PEOPLE DOWN TRYING TO DO SOMETHING POSITIVE WITH THEIR LIVES! YALL BEEN fuckING WITH US SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME. if I don’t like a artist im not going to like their facebook and talk to them. use common sense and stop being stupid.
IM TIRED OF WHITE PEOPLE DOING US LIKE THIS MAN!! THEY TREAT US SO WRONG!! fuck THEM MAN ON GOD!! fu*k THEM FOR LIKING A BLACK MANS FACEBOOK JUST TO TALK shit!! fuck RACIST I HATE YOU.
Maybe I finally said the right shit to get these racist to unlike my page. Fans i’m sorry you had to read this. but we must take a stand. they WILL not treat us like this any longer. I dont give a fuck.
I’m gonna keep talking sh*t to these white f*ggots until they unlike my page. fucking weirdo stalkers!
Just unlike my page and shut the fuck up. let my fans enjoy me. All young black people dont let these faggots discourage you from your dreams! you can be anything you want! DESPITE them always trying to hold us down and talk shit! WE ARE GREAT.
If you are saying “soulja i dont like u now” i dont give a fuck i dont want u on my page anyway. I am going to speak my mind forever. and if something is not right ITS JUST NOT RIGHT! I can’t help it i’m a real person with feelings. fuck a hater. and fuck a racist. out.
Is SB’s rant worthy if white fans are on facebook making racists remarks? That’s an interesting conversation to have. But all I know is that if I was sitting in my condo in the ritzy Buckhead area, sitting on a few millions there’s not much you could do to set me off.
This can’t bode well for his new movie “Juice”. I mean lets keep it real — because the numbers don’t lie– white people are the main supporters of this crap people call hip-hop. So he might want to pipe down on all the hate speech. It really doesn’t matter who cast the first stone. You could always go get a job at McDonalds and let the next person deal with the perils of your life.
Could the love affair between Soulja Boy and Hip-Hop be over? That’s what some are speculating now that his new album “The De Andre Way” failed to generate adequate CD sales.
Per XXL:
Soulja Boy Tell’em debuted on The Billboard 200 sales chart this week, with his third album The DeAndre Way, but the Swag rapper failed to sell as many copies as expected.
Moving close to 13, 400 units in his first week, SB didn’t make a lot of noise on the Nielsen SoundScan report, released today (December 8). In comparison, Soulja’s last disc, 2008’s iSouljaboytellem, sold about 45,500 copies in week one.
I’ve never been a fan. So for me its about damn time we move on.
