Earlier this year I told you all about a developing controversy surrounding Island Def Jam’s Brutha. In case you missed it, one of the members was caught in an illicit act, which was posted online for the world to see.
The group stayed quiet, no public statement was released, and that seemed to be the end of it. Well, that was until this weekend when team Gyant had the chance to interview the family musical group.
In our interview, Brutha talked about the sudden passing of Shakir Stewart, and how that ultimately effected the direction and promotion of their debut album. Plus the guys discussed the recording process of their sophomore album titled “Vacancy.” Now at this point we are loving Brutha for their candor. That is until we get to the now infamous self-sex tape allegedly involving Anthony “Brutha” Harrell.
Team Gyant: This is going to be an awkward question, but what was the most embarrassing thing you guys caught doing online, and how did you feel about?
Brutha: [blank stares..] You mean the picture that they put up on the internet?
Team Gyant: Ummm Hmmm
Brutha: We got pictures of the real photoshoot, and we can show you what the real photo shoot looks like. I mean we don’t really get embarrassed though. We laugh it off it’s all good.
Team Gyant: No, the picture we’re specifically talking about is one of you guys going in on the internet being sexy with yourself?
Brutha: [Anthony Brutha Harrell says] Oooohh that wasn’t us. That wasn’t any of us.
Team Gyant: Oh OK I’m glad you all addressed that because people have been buzzing about that.
Brutha: People make up alot of stuff.
Team Gyant: And how do you all feel about that?
Brutha: It’s shows that we’re popular
OK, so first off I’m not dummy and I don’t appreciate the fugazi in my interviews. While I totally understand why Anthony would try to deny the embarrassing tape, lying will get you no where.
Artists need to understand the importance of transparency with their fans. Though I lack the forensic knowledge to authenticate the tape of the Brutha member beating his privates to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” I do have eyes and common sense.
It is what it is, but it’s just silly to try and play the media. We…um well I NEVER ask questions I don’t already know the answer.
Epic Fail Anthony. Watch the video interview on Gyant on BET Blog.
