iPhone Scoop: With iPhone Thefts On The Rise New Technology Hopes To Make Stolen Devices Junk!

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

With Apple stock hitting $700.00 a share today, I thought that I would take some time to post a story I read regarding the rise of iPhone thefts in the nation.  It’s clear we need to all be more a little more careful with flashing our high-priced device.

Per ABC News:

According to the Federal Communications Commission, 30-40 percent of robberies in several major cities involve cell phones, including 38 percent in Washington, D.C. and 40 percent in New York City Las Vegas police broke up two rings of cell phone thieves on September 6.

The recent increase in cell phone thefts has prompted action from both the government and major wireless carriers.

In April, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, along with  Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray  and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announced new initiatives to combat the thefts.

Genachowski announced the creation and implementation of a database to prevent the use of stolen smartphones. With this new system, which is expected to launch in the coming months, a cell phone user can report their device stolen and their carrier will block the device from being used.

Officials believe that the registry will cut cell phone thefts.  Even more dangerous is the threat of stolen personal information stored on smartphones.

“That’s what we’re most worried about, the tremendous amount of information these people are stealing,” Cassell said.

Beyond monetary consequences, many people are injured or even killed during robberies.

Hwangbum Yang, 26, a chef at a restaurant in Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art, was shot and killed during a cell phone robbery on his way home from work in April.

In 2011, 17-year-old Prince Watson was charged with the murder of Sally Katona-King, 68, when he shoved her down the stairs in an attempt to steal her iPhone, according to ABC Chicago affiliate WLS.

And device thefts are not limited to the street or coffee shops.

Last week, a California man was accused of driving his SUV through an Apple store in Temecula and stealing thousands of dollars worth of display items. The investigation is still on-going.

Be careful with your phones people. Be aware of your surroundings at all time. In this tough economic times, desperate people do desperate things.

T.I. Refuses To Give A Date For New Album, Do You Still Care About @Tip The Rapper?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

Those who are waiting for Grand Hustle General TI’s new album “Trouble Man” might just have to find musical inspiration elsewhere. In a new interview, the  multi-platinum star was asked about his tentative new album, which was due to hit stores September 4th.

“Me being the perfectionist that I am, I’m still tweaking and fine-tuning, trying to perfect all parts of this project,” he said.

“I did, like, 124 songs, and I’ve narrowed it down to 86 now, so now I have to continue to narrow down and continue to make it better…I’m not trying to paint myself into a corner with a date.

I’m trying to make sure that the project is the absolute best it could be, and I’m trying to get it down by the end of the year.”

Translation; Don’t expect it anytime soon. How do you feel about the former rap phenomenon? Personally,  TI’s personal life has overshadowed his now long gone musical dominance in the game. Once a HUGE fan, I hung up my Grand Hustle T-Shirt when he went back to jail for a third time for a parole violation. Or was it his second…? I can’t keep up.

The pint sized MC has hinted at retiring in previous interviews. He told BET News:

“This is what everyone fails to realize: I want out,” he said. “Where the game is going to and what it has evolved into from a personality standpoint, it goes against who I am as a person. So I want out. I’m [still] in it because I love music and because I have obligations contractually.”

Look at that. His heart is not really in it anymore. And as a fan neither is mine.

Former Reality TV Star Blasts “Real Housewives” & “Love & Hip-Hop” For Portraying Atlanta In A Negative Way!

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

As many of you know I do not watch reality TV. What once used to be my most favorite genre of entertainment, I now cringe with embarrassment. From “Dance Moms,” to “Basketball Wives” its all gotten so seedy and depressing to watch grown people acting outlandish — and oftentimes unbelievably immature for the likes of the camera.

However when it comes to Atlanta reality shows, my disgust get increased by about a one-thousand. Being a Atlanta resident for almost 10 years now, the portrayal of Atlantans on ATL reality shows are nowhere near accurate. And knowing that discourages me from giving light, or being in the presence of people on these shows.

But it seems my disgust is shared commonly amongst other ATL residents, particularly one Mrs. Kelly Smith Beaty. The Spellman graduate garnered an amazing look via Huffington Post this week discussing her issues with ATL reality shows — and how their negative portrayal echoes a falsity about this great city.

Though, Beaty never mentions “Love and Hip-Hop ATL” or “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” it’s becomes very clear that she’s aiming her gripe directly at these types of shows.

Per AJC:

“How is it that a city which was once the crowning jewel in the story of black America has allowed itself to be positioned as the melting pot of black affliction? The Atlanta that I knew and grew up in was one of great pride and self-respect. Our achievements were known across the globe, as people from far and wide would often respond, ‘Wow, I hear that black people are really doing their thing down there,’ when I would tell them I’m from Atlanta. Today that assertion is often met with, ‘Yoooo….I hear Atlanta’s got them bangin’ strip clubs.’…Really?!?”

Time after time, executive producers from L.A. and New York, where I currently reside- bring their camera crews and A/V techs into our city to create what inevitably amounts to the Jerry Springer equivalent of the franchise’s northern counterparts. A series that historically featured the diamond encrusted lives of wealthy spouses debuted an Atlanta version of the series where the wealth was elusive and spouses were no longer a requirement. More recently, a show about popular entertainers and the women who love them premiered an Atlanta-based installment where the term popular was subjective and women suggested that other women should be put “on the track,” a prostitution reference that is particularly damaging for a city that is already noted for being one of the largest hubs for child sex trafficking in the world. To put it mildly I was offended. To state I plainly, I was aghast.

While I try not to judge people too harshly who watch such shows that reflect such depravity, I think people need to realize that it’s more than entertainment. Contributing to these type of shows — by of viewership- sends a far negative signal to the masses than even the cast-members. Be very careful on what you support.

Hip-Hop On Notice: Co-Founder of All Hip-Hop Calls Out Rappers Sincerity Over #TrayvonMartin

Friday, March 30th, 2012

You know how we operate on Gyantunplugged.com by now. Once a champion for a culture I held near and dear to my heart, has now been replaced with ambivalence and disdain. Rappers have been a major disappointment in general since the mid to late 90′s. And If I can keep it real for a moment, a culture that was designed to tell the stories of “the struggle,” striving for to social change and the end of injustice has been traded in for the root of all evil. Money. From “Fight The Power,” to “U.N.I.T.Y.,” hip-hop used to have a responsibility to the world, and most importantly the hood.

But we’re all too familiar with MC’s exchanging their god given talent to move a nation forward for a simple clothing line, opportunity, the limelight and the club. It’s a god damn shame if you really think about it. Days of me listening to hip-hop, searching for the perfect verse over a tight beat are over! I’ve grown tired of yelling from the mountaintop that n*ccas have to change. Not black men. N*ccas! It’s clear our community chooses to support the career-criminals over those who try to uplift change and promo unity all to shake their ass at night. And in a time when the nation is on the edge of a proverbial sharp knife, I find the lack of leadership to be even more appalling.

The shocking and outrageous murder of Trayvon Martin is still very fresh on everybody’s mind, especially those of color. Yet the faux support from today’s hip-hop I have find to be even more offensive. I pondered posting something about it earlier this week. But now it seems I can check that off my list as Co-Founder of the internet’s most popular hip-hop website, All Hip-Hop.com, has called out today’s “rappers” in a way that would be hard for anybody to ignore.

In an open letter posted this morning, Creekmur politely addresses prominent people in hip-hop over their sincerity (or lack their of) over the brutal killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The letter is both poignant and truthful. And I just knew I had to share a little bit of it with you all.

Per Mr. Creekmur:

First of all, do you really care? Seriously, do you really care about Trayvon and the countless, nameless, and faceless “Trayvons” that never make the headlines? I was just wondering, because there are lots of people like myself who don’t know. Honestly, I’m not sure how Trayvon managed to rise above the apathy, but he did.

There are countless other “Trayvons” who could have used your voice as a tool to raise awareness about the violence issue as a escalating national crisis. Sadly, most of them didn’t rank high enough in the news to warrant a tribute track.

As you know – or should know – Hip-Hop has traditionally served as the voice of the voiceless. And at its inception, rappers were the ones with the loudest voices. Legends like Chuck D, KRS-One, X-Clan, and even so-called gangsta rappers like Ice Cube, The Geto Boys, and Ice-T were telling everyone how it was going down. America was forced to pay attention.

A one-off dedication to Trayvon Martin, a hoodie avatar, or a tweet with a trending hashtag just isn’t going to get it in 2012, buddy boy. That is assuming you care. Wait. I’m sure you do, because you made some positive moves in light of this tragic moment. No way would you create an ode to Trayvon simply to get some hits or views, right? Nah. No way.

In closing, I think you we should all make some changes. Forget what’s going on in the radio and television. Stand out and stand up for something substantial on a more consistent basis, not for something silly just to make the headlines.

You’re still connected to the ‘hood right? No, not the so-called “thuggish” clothing that made Trayvon suspicious to George Zimmerman. I mean, the neighbor’HOOD that inspired the music you create. That made you who you are. Since you’re established in the ‘hood and with the people in it, let’s make some music that inspires them. Times are hard, and they need hope. You don’t have to be corny because of it. We’ll still support you, and you can still do the degenerate or opulent rap that gets you played by the programmers and the clubs, but let’s mix it up. BALANCE. Capicé? [Read More]

Chuck hit the nail on the head, and I don’t think that I could have said it better myself!! Unfortunately I don’t subscribe to the anger and outrage of others outside the black community. My outrage is directed directly at the people who are put in powerful positions who simply don’t give a f*ck about their fans, their community, or their people. So until we clean-up our act — both in art and in life– I will reserve my hatred for Trayvon’s killer George Zimmerman and the corrupt police and judicial system.

Its beyond time we all wake up, but most importantly those who were blessed by god to have a voice and extend that voice amongst a large group of people.

Like Chuck said, “Hip-Hop has traditionally served as the voice of the voiceless.” it’s time to bring that tradition back DAMMIT! While I don’t know Mr. Creekmur personally, I’ve come to have a profound respect for him and his opinions on matters such as these. It’s time to cut the crap and hold today’s “rappers” to a higher standard. Because where we’re headed now terrifies the living daylights out of me. So should it you.

Video: McDonalds Employee Takes Self Defense A Bit Too Far, But Was He Justified?

Monday, October 17th, 2011

If you haven’t heard, a McDonalds out of NYC is in the news over an unfortunate issue surrounding two unruly customers and a cashier with a criminal past.

Per DNA Info:

The drama began about 12:30 a.m. Thursday when the two customers — Denise Darbeau, 24, of Queens, and her pal, Rachel Edwards, 24, of Brooklyn — entered the popular fast food spot, near Sixth Avenue, and began giving McIntosh a hard time, police sources said.
The McDonald’s on West 3rd Street, near Sixth Avenue (DNAinfo/Ben Fractenberg)

In the video, Darbeau is clearly heard cursing at McIntosh after the cashier told her he had to scan a $50 bill to make sure it was authentic before he would give them their food.

That’s when all hell breaks loose.

An agitated Darbeau is seen slapping McIntosh across the face, prompting him to lunge forward and shove the two women.

Darbeau leaps onto the counter and clears the other side while McIntosh retreats to the other end of the restaurant, according to the video.

Suddenly, McIntosh reappears on the video, brandishing a metal rod, which he slams onto Darbeau’s head.

The video, which has audio, is peppered with patrons screaming and wailing in horror and the chilling sound of the metal rod repeatedly whipping through the air and hitting Darbeau and Edwards.

“Stop it! Stop! Stop! Oh my God!” one woman is heard screaming. “Someone call police!”

Fellow workers can be seen on the video unsuccessfully trying to restrain McIntosh. Sources say McIntosh ordered his assailants to stay down, and belted them each time they tried to get up. The continued beating is partially hidden from the camera by the counter.

The aforementioned events got to me thinking about men and women in 2011. The notion that a man doesn’t hit a women is a relic of a time gone by and its time we recognize it. Watching this video, I feel that though the cashier was excessive in his punishment to the unruly women, the fact of the matter is it would have never happened if the ladies had kept their hands to themselves. And it’s time we all speak on it.

I have tons of female acquaintances And there still seems to be an ideal that any act they do to a man should never be retaliated with violence because they are women. I find this to be complete bullshit. At the end of the day –ladies, if you don’t want to be handled like man then STOP stepping to men with these brazen attitudes. For these two women to slap this man in the face and climb atop the McDonald’s counter cornering him like they were gonna do something is grounds for a man to protect himself.

Of course they have fired the cashier, and he was subsequently arrested. But at the end of the day I can’t help but think that women need to get with the program. If you come off aggressive to a man and get physical with a man, you can’t get mad when a man steps BACK to you in the same manner. I am not for hitting women at all. But oftentimes Im seeing today’s women come off as more the aggressor, and that’s just not cool. Everybody keep their hands to themselves.

Picture 62

I am sure by now you’ve observed about the lack of music and gossip posts on Gyantunplugged.com. This year has been a growing one to say the least. After 8 years of hard work tracking down celebrity scandals, provoking today’s most popular entertainers and bring you all your celebrity scoop minus the bullshit, it has come time to retire the old model of GU.com.

Entertainment news with the Gyant spin was intended to entertained and temporarily distract readers from their day to day problems. However, with such an over -saturation of entertainment news, echoing the exact same stories, I have come to realize my talents are far too vast to continuously box myself — and my dedicated readers– into the same entertainment scoop day after day.

Last nights execution of a potentially innocent prisoner Troy Davis is resonating in my spirit so much that I feel an immense amount of guilt. Perhaps as a popular blogger, if I had turned my attention onto this matter sooner a more positive resolution could have surfaced. However, my attention was focused on lesser more superficial pop culture news, which I have discovered has immensely done more harm to us all than good.

Our country is in disarray, unemployment for many African-Americans is rampant, these young black men and women are LEADERLESS, and we all are on the proverbial airplane descending nose first toward land at lightening speed.

Some of my readers will bail, others will remain and more are sure to follow. However I can no longer in good faith and consciousness be apart of the problem any longer. It’s time to wake-up and its time to get real. And it is my goal to educate my readers on more pressing matters that directly affect their lives.

The new Gyantunplugged will focus on community news, public figure profiles, and more. But if gossip is what you want you will no longer find it here.

Naturally I will still be updating Gyant on BET blog and BET’s Soundoff blog with relevant entertainments twice each day. So be sure to go check those out.

For every reader who has stuck by me throughout the years and since the begining, words can’t express how much I love and appreciate you. I hope you will continue on this journey.

Below The Belt: @MsSelitaEbanks Issues Blow To @NickCannon ‘s Manhood, Claims “Eh” When Asked About His Private Asset!

Monday, August 15th, 2011

There’s been great speculation over Nick Cannon’s sexual conquests over the years. The flamboyantly personable entertainer has been linked from everyone to Christiana Millian, Zoe Saladana Victoria Secret model Selita Eubanks, and of course we all know he married international superstar Mariah Carey. Many who is — or once — close to Cannon reveals that the word on the curb was that he’s hung like a a 70′s porn star.

So you can imagine my surprise when his former girlfriend Selita opened up about the girth — or lack thereof.

She tells HDNe’st talk show “Naughty But Nice Rob” and says:

I mean I technically wore a ring but I don’t think I was really engaged,” Ebanks tells me of her relationship with Cannon. “I want a Prince. I want Prince Harry. Do you think the queen would accept me?”

And as far as kissing she gives Cannon a “meh” but was less enthusiastic about his other, most private asset giving it an even less passionate “meh.”

You realize now what has to happen right? Time for a tweet from MC defending her man. Because nobody wants to walk around having the world thinking they are lesser than. Male private members are as important to us as ladies infatuation with breats. A little catty on Selita’s side, but we can’t fault her for wanting a little press.

Mission accomplished, boo.
