Hoodie On The Hill, Rep Bobby Rush, Loses Right To Address House For Wearing A Hoodie!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

I wasn’t going to post this. But I find it’s building momentum from the “right,” so I figured what the hell. It seems the outrage over 17-year-old Travyon Martin’s tragic murder continues to anger many Americans. Even those in Congress.

Checkout what happened when Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill chose to show his support for Trayvon Martin and all African-American men, who are deemed to be on the wrong side of the law, for wearing hoodies.

As far as sparks go it’s not really all that interesting, but it’s still good sh*t. Shouts to Rep Rush.

Whoa: @CornelWest Addresses @BarackObama & Washington w/ “Dr. King Weeps From His Grave” Washington Post Piece

Friday, August 26th, 2011

As poor people continue to struggle and record high unemployment amongst the black community continues to climb, words from Cornell West addresses these issues head on in an interesting piece written for The Washington Post should give you some food for thought:

….The age of Obama has fallen tragically short of fulfilling King’s prophetic legacy. Instead of articulating a radical democratic vision and fighting for homeowners, workers and poor people in the form of mortgage relief, jobs and investment in education, infrastructure and housing, the administration gave us bailouts for banks, record profits for Wall Street and giant budget cuts on the backs of the vulnerable.

As the talk show host Tavis Smiley and I have said in our national tour against poverty, the recent budget deal is only the latest phase of a 30-year, top-down, one-sided war against the poor and working people in the name of a morally bankrupt policy of deregulating markets, lowering taxes and cutting spending for those already socially neglected and economically abandoned. Our two main political parties, each beholden to big money, offer merely alternative versions of oligarchic rule.

The absence of a King-worthy narrative to reinvigorate poor and working people has enabled right-wing populists to seize the moment with credible claims about government corruption and ridiculous claims about tax cuts’ stimulating growth. This right-wing threat is a catastrophic response to King’s four catastrophes; its agenda would lead to hellish conditions for most Americans.

King weeps from his grave. He never confused substance with symbolism. He never conflated a flesh and blood sacrifice with a stone and mortar edifice. We rightly celebrate his substance and sacrifice because he loved us all so deeply. Let us not remain satisfied with symbolism because we too often fear the challenge he embraced. Our greatest writer, Herman Melville, who spent his life in love with America even as he was our most fierce critic of the myth of American exceptionalism, noted, “Truth uncompromisingly told will always have its ragged edges; hence the conclusion of such a narration is apt to be less finished than an architectural finial.”

King’s response to our crisis can be put in one word: revolution…..

Let the man tell the truth.

Timothy Geithner On Our Economy, “It’s going to feel very hard!” + Is The Black Middle Class Disappearing?

Monday, July 11th, 2011

While the music industry is celebrating the increase in sales for the first time in seven years, our economy is far from a recovery. This according to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Timothy Geithner On Our Ecomony, “It’s going to feel very hard!”:

Per The AP:

Geithner tells NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it’s a very tough economy. He says that for a lot of people “it’s going to feel very hard, harder than anything they’ve experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come.”

Looks like we all might need to stop buying so much music, and start saving for harder times to come. Unlearn people! Unlearn.

P.S. The Chicago Sun-Times has a fascinating, yet alarming, story about how this economy is destroying the middle class for African-Americans. Some experts warn of a historic reversal of hard-won economic gains that took black people decades to achieve. [Read More]

Weenie Roast: @RepWeiner’s Johnson Hits The Net! Oh The Humiliation!

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

I’ve been purposely laying low on my opinion on NY Congressman Anthony Weiner. I don’t understand the salaciousness that’s ensued. But it’s clear the political circus is hell-bent on showing more attention to a man’s private life than the fact that we are in a double digit recession.

Forgo my argument about how the media distracts us more then inform. This is a stupid matter to be addressing, but alas here we all are. And now that Representative Weiner’s Johnson has officially been released, it’s clear that a resignation is imminent.

It’s absolutely nothing to write home about. It leaves very much to the imagination. There’s an argument that you can tell a woman’s age by her neck. And if thats true, then the same can be said about men and their d*cks.

I warn you; its nothing to talk about. If anything I pity his wife. I mean not only does she have to walk with the public shame of knowing he’s suffering from a mid-life crisis. But now we all know that he’s not even breaking her off in the bed right. It’s just a humiliating experience all around. WOW.

[See THe NSFW photo's Here]

P.S. Am I the only noticing that all the woman Rep Weiner has gotten into trouble are white? With such an beautiful and exotic looking wife, I’m a bit confused by his bimbo selections. Can’t there be an argument made that he clearly prefers a white girl?

Video: @BarackObama Connected To Tag Team’s “Whoomp [There It Is]“

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

It must be a slow news day because the political satire blogs are spending endless amounts of time talking about the 1993 smash hit “Whoomp [There It Is]“. Take a look at Tag Team’s video. In the scene the guy at 1:01 wearing shades and a Compton hat resembles Barack Obama, talking on a cell phone.

Though clearly a false alarm, pro Tea Baggers and other internet weirdo’s are claiming it is in fact President Obama, and of course are trying to pounce. However, thanks to Gawker lets just clear up the silly notion:

* But, actually, by 1993, Obama was deeply involved in community activism in Chicago. In 1992, Obama famously helped boost voter turnout among blacks through his tireless organizing. How would Obama had the time to film this video? And why the hell would the director of Tag Team’s video seek out a notable community organizer to play a domino player? Maybe they were buddies from Harvard or something

* Also, Tag Team is from Atlanta. If Obama wanted to make his rap video debut, wouldn’t he have chosen an early-90s act from his beloved Chicago? Maybe Da Brat, or Crucial Conflict? And he would obviously be wearing a Bulls hat—not a Compton one.

* Most of these conspiracy theorists base their observation on a low-quality YouTube version of the video. Take a look at this screenshot from a higher-quality video: Doesn’t look much like him, actually. Also: earrings? Obama is cool, but not that cool.

Got it? Good!

AL Gore and Wife Tipper Seperate!

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

OK I snatched this photo. I was too lazy to go hunting for a new one. Anyway in a complete departure from political policy, former Vice President of the United States and his wife of 40 years are separating.

Per TMZ:

The couple wrote an email that found its way to Politico, saying, “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate.”

The email continues, “This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration.”

Wow. Will Hilary and Bill be next? Don’t ask me why I care.

TV Scoop: Vice President Joe Biden F*cks Up On Live TV [Again]

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Vice President Joe Bidden has put his foot in his mouth yet again after President Obama made history by finally signing a new law to reform healthcare in this country.

Personally I’m not even mad at him. It is a BIG F*CKING DEAL!!! But I wonder if he’ll get fined for using profanity on daytime television. #Imjustsayin

If Janet Jackson had to bare that cross — so does the Vice President, no?!
