Nearly 300 children received winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves and earmuffs just in time for Christmas, thanks to Grammy-winning rapper/actor Ludacris and NFL star Jonas Jennings. Children of all ages attended the Coats for Christmas event, hosted by the College Park Housing Authority in College Park, GA. The recreational room at the Rhunette Lindsay Senior Complex & Jack Longino Senior Mid-Rise Buildings was transformed into a Winter Wonderland with Santa’s elves, life-sized Christmas characters, a popcorn machine and the famous OMG photo booth. Youth ages 0-18 were treated to dinner (food & beverages), soulful Christmas music, arts and crafts and had the opportunity to take pictures with Ludacris and Jennings.
The 2012 edition of Coats for Christmas was a collaborative effort between the Ludacris Foundation and Jonas Jennings. ”I have always believed that charity begins at home. This is where I grew up,” Jennings explained when asked about his choice to focus on the College Park community. Ludacris took time out to thank the media for covering a positive event. “We appreciate you covering this event because it allows us to show others the positive things we’re doing in the community, which allows us to lead by example,” Ludacris said.

The monthly music showcase, ATL Live on the Park, recently featured performances by Kyron Leslie, Crystal Nicole, Comedian Lightfoot and Phillippia at Park Tavern. Brought to you by music industry veterans Shanti Das and Marlon Nichols, this showcase brings together great music, food, people and atmosphere hosted by Kenny Burns with DJ Salah Ananse spinning classic funk, soul and R&B while the Teddy White Band provided the tunes for artists to give the audience stellar performances.

The amazing Kyron Leslie opened up the show and captured the audience with his soulful sounds filling the air at Park Tavern.
Grammy award winning songwriter and new artist on the R&B scene Crystal Nicole sang her heart out and won instant fans right before comedian Lightfoot took the stage and had the audience in tears.
Miami native, Phillippia, had the audience grooving to her R&B and reggae island sounds when she performed her new single and covered some of the best classic reggae songs, not to mention threw in a few killer dance moves to close the show. The heat that night was on stage not just the summer air!
Make sure you dont miss out on next month’s ATL Live on the Park which will be taking place on September 13, 2011. Great acts will be hitting the stage for the first showcase of the fall season!

Shouts to Team Mayor Kasim Reed for sending over these shots from a star studded back to school event, which occured over the weekend. I wanted to attend, but only had hours to prepare thus I couldn’t. However thanks to Shawnnell T. Brown for sending me over some exclusive shots from the event.

Mayor Kasim Reed kicked off the school year with a star-studded pep rally at Jean Childs Young Middle School in southwest Atlanta. Rapper Diamond, R&B songstress K. Michelle and Tiffani Tyree and actress Terri J. Vaughn were there to support Mayor Reed and the students!
Council member’s H. Lamar Willis and Keisha Lance Bottoms as well as APS Board of Education Chair Brenda J. Muhammad participated in the event.
I gotta sit down with Mayor Reed sometime soon. He’s taken to mayoralty like a duck to water, hasn’t he?

A couple of weeks ago I ran a post on actress Keisha Knight-Pulliam and her Kamp Kizzy event which helped young girls…um..do something positive and uplifting (I imagine). It’s purpose currently escapes me. However, since then I’ve gotten several requests about a few of the sponsors from the event. But, the standout is definitely the Zaxby’s franchise store off Lower Roswell Road.
Zaxby’s managing partner Jon Silvey, along with his assistant manager Ace and their fantastic staff presented Keisha and the kids with well-rounded lunch full of the franchises’ most popular menu items.
“I’m a strong believer in community,” says Silvey on getting involved with Pulliam’s Kamp Kizzy project. “So when we were approached by Branded PR on this amazing opportunity we knew we had to become a part of this.”
