Box Office Results: “Alice In Wonderland” Soars While “Our Family Wedding” Um…

The box movie results have just been released from the weekend, and while “Alice In Wonderland” is still #1 raking in over 430 million worldwide, the new diverse comedy, Our Family Wedding didn’t perform as expected.

Per Boxofficemojo:

Our Family Wedding rounded out the new nationwide releases this weekend, grossing an estimated $7.6 million at 1,605 locations. The opening was low compared to such like-minded comedies as Guess Who and Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married, and it was also soft against recent wedding-themed movies like Bride Wars, Made of Honor and 27 Dresses.While exact demographics aren’t available, distributor Fox Searchlight indicated that Our Family Wedding played well in regions with large African American and Hispanic populations.

Perhaps if Fox Searchlight would have advertised with Gyantunplugged.com the flick would have performed better.

Movie Scoop: “Avatar” Grosses 800 Million World Wide! [Update]

Update: It’s now at 1 Billion worldwide.

It looks like James Cameron can breathe a sigh of relief because the most the expensive movie in history is pulling in a bundle:

Who woulda thunk it? (End of sarcasm…) Adding Wednesday’s estimated North American gross of $18.4M, Avatar’s new domestic cume is now a staggering $268.8M after only 13 days in release. It’s been averaging $18M a day. Avatar’s international for Wednesday was $36.9M, down only 6% from Tuesday, making the foreign cume now $525.3M. So the worldwide total ending Wednesday was $794.1M. It has now crossed $800M today. Yowza! [Dead Line Hollywood]

800 million dollars? Damn! That’s crazy chedda, yo.
