ATL Blog: BMI Lawyers Go After Blogger For False Reports About False Drake Rumors!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

I got some more pictures from last nights BMI showcase. But, before that I gotta speak on something that is probably going to have me regretting the bulldagger’s backlash, but it is what it is.

There’s a vicious rumor being spread by the angry lesbian with no soul regarding some false allegations that BMI coughed up 100k for Drake to perform last night and tried to ban the much hyped MC from doing any local club performances, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

My source, who is so close to BMI Vice President Catherine Brewton that it might as well be her herself, tells me that every word from the blog post is a lie, and that the original picture used in the post, which as since been removed, was photo-shopped to make it appear that Brewton and Drake have a more then friendly relationship.

Clearly enjoying the fame from spreading nothing but lies, Rose tried to drive his point home by attacking Brewton’s character — like he has any room to talk — and rambled on about tales of meeting Ted Turner and being treated with such respect, a trait apparently Catherine lacks.

Personally, I’ve met Catherine numerous times, and is she the most engaging person on the planet — no. Is she a bitch who talks down to people — in my experience, no. Does she carry herself in an upper echelon type of manner, yes. Is there a mean spirited ego maniac amidst us all, no.

Anyway, apparently lawyers have been called over the defaming post, not like its going to matter, and it seems BMI is trying to come at dude respectfully for spreading nothing but lies. And surprisingly it worked a little because Rose did make amendments to his original post.

Bottom line all you readers who make the blog writers hot need to understand what it is your endorsing.

Some bloggers are just assholes with an opinion like moi. And then some are evil pariah’s of the world who get a kick out causing havoc in anybody and everybody’s life. Know who you are supporting.

Pop the hood for more pictures from the BMI event.

Shouts to publicist and branding extraordinaire Tahira Wright of Branded PR and Are You In Inc for putting me on BMI’s Catherine Brewton’s soiree that occurred last week.

I wasn’t able to attend. But I gotta show some love to the ladies in this shady music industry who consistently carve a name out for themselves in this male-dominated game.

Per Tahira:

The Black Women in Entertainment Law Foundation (BWEL) honored BMI’s Catherine Brewton, VP, Writer/Publisher Relations during an intimate cocktail reception at the Mason Murer Gallery in Atlanta, GA. BWEL’s founder Nova Perry, ESQ. and Dallas Austin gave inspirational speeches regarding Catherine’s career at BMI spanning 13 years, and her overall contributions to the music industry. Special guests Charlie Wilson, Cee-lo, Devyne Stephens, Yung Joc, Rock City, BMI staff, producers and writers attended in support of BWEL and Catherine Brewton’s accomplishments. Guests enjoyed complimentary hors’douevres and cocktails provided by Grey Goose and decor by Warren Huntley Presents, Inc., while participating in the Art Exhibit’s silent auction.

BWEL Foundation provides scholarships to women of color interested in pursuing careers in entertainment and law. The 1st Annual fundraiser in 2008 honored Sylvia Rhone, President of Universal Motown, in New York, and the organization has raised over $85,000 in scholarships within a year of inception. BMI saluted the world’s premier R&B, rap and hip-hop songwriters, producers and publishers tonight at its annual Urban Awards. BMI President & CEO Del Bryant and Catherine Brewton, Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Atlanta, hosted the ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th Street, New York City.

Hip-hop titans T-Pain and Lil Wayne shared the prestigious Songwriter of the Year prize, as trendsetters Polow Da Don and Kanye West both earned Producer of the Year titles. Song of the Year honors went to Jordin Sparks’ “No Air,” written by Erik Griggs, while Universal Music Publishing Group garnered yet another Publisher of the Year crown.

The capstone of the night’s festivities was the presentation of the BMI Icon Award to George Clinton, whose achievements were celebrated with an all-star musical tribute, featuring performances by Cee-Lo Green, who delivered “One Nation Under a Groove”; Parliament/Funkadelic’s Bootsy Collins, who performed “Atomic Dog”; Janelle Monáe who performed “Flashlight”; and Dallas Austin, Big Gipp and Outkast’s Big Boi, whose medley of “(Not Just) Knee Deep,” “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk)” and “Up for the Down Store” was the jaw-dropping conclusion.
