Blogger Beef: Hip-Hop Bloggers Talk To @MTV On Why They Won’t Post @Drakkardnoir

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

MTV News caught up with top hip-hop bloggers to discuss the “Thank Me Later” leak that’s being widely downloaded at lightening speed.

NahRight.com’s Eskay, Rapradar.com’s Elliot Smith, FakeShoreDrive.com’s Andrew Barber and more all chimed in on what they feel is a very clear violation of hip-hop fans usage of the internet.

Per MTV:

any times in the past — with Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III and Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak — we’ve seen blogs post a myriad of songs immediately after the album leaks. While they might not post the entire album, you’d get at least three new joints from it. With Drake, however, most blogs have decided to ignore Thank Me Later’s early, unplanned release.

“Enough is enough,” Andrew Barber of FakeShoreDrive.com told MTV News on Wednesday. “I know, for my credibility, we kinda already take enough from the artists. I know it’s a give-and-take relationship, but we already take enough from the artists. At a certain point, you have to take a stand. Most ethical blogs won’t post the album or keep posting [individual songs]. At a certain point, you’re cutting into their sales. Its one thing to post a few songs, but to post every single song, that’s basically pirating. That’s where I draw the line.”

“To be fair,” RapRadar.com founder Elliot Wilson said, “I think a lot of the sites, when the album fully leaks, they don’t put up the full album leaks. They kinda slowed down on the leaks and they’ll make the bold statement, they’ll decide, ‘This is the last leak we’re gonna put up from the project.’ “

Don’t even get me started on the obvious ass kissing that’s going on from the aforementioned. While I respect and admire all my blogger colleagues, the fact of the matter is bloggers post illegal copyrighted materials on blogs every single day. So to suddenly gain some sense of moral consciousness now that hip-hop hopeful’s own Drake aka Hammerhead has become yet a victim of the web, is laughable and a down right betrayal to the word “blogger”.

Now I will agree with former Editor in chief of XXL Magazine, Elliot Wilson, that bloggers don’t post full albums hardly, tons of non mainstream blog spaces do. Hence its where I got my copy.

Like everyone, I’ve downloaded “Thank Me Later,” and if I were a fan of Drakes — or hip-hop these days — I’d post it. Or at the very least hint to you where you can find it.

Unfortunately, for me the first three songs sunk me into an emotional hope so deep that not even a fireman without a collar bone could have rescued me.

Either way it’s an interesting read. Go here to read the full story.

Pop the hood to hear Drake’s feeling on the premature leak.

Embarrassing: @JuliaBeverly Gets Dragged Out of @ChrisBrown’s Haiti Benefit!!

Monday, May 17th, 2010

You know in 2010 of my personal missions statements would be to keep my opinion’s about other bloggers to myself — well with the exception to the angry lez– however over the weekend I got word about a situation involving one of music’s most hated and notorious Editor-in-Cheif’s  — turned blogger that I knew i just had to put you all onto it.

If you didn’t know embattled pop star Chris Brown held a Haiti benefit in his home state of Virgina. Clearly CB is pulling at straws to get back in his good graces, so it’s no surprise that the media was invited out to cover the story. However, it seems that one Ms. Julia Beverly [Ozone Magazine] was mistakenly added to the list. And of course JB caused a whole lot of drama.

Pop the hood for details.

Just For Sh*ts & Giggles: @Freddyo’s Video Run-In W/ The Angry Lez W/ No Soul!

Friday, May 7th, 2010

With Gyantunplugged TV on a temporary hiatus, its time to get back into my role as the blogging bad boy who don’t give a f*ck.

We all know that ATL bloggers have quite the disdain for one another. There’s no particular reason for it. I mean truth be told you don’t see Perez Hilton fighting with Dlisted.com. Nor do see Just Jared coming at Pink Is The New Blog.

However in Atlanta all the top bloggers have one singular enemy in common, and its the angry lez with no soul. That alone should tell you something. Necole Bitchie, poor thang, has packed up and left the city. Freddyo has been banned from anything AG Entertainment, and we all know my unfortunate experience in dealing with ole boy. An experience that ironically was the best thing that could have happened to me because I learned a lot about myself and others.

So for sh*ts and giggles I thought I’d share with you all one of the funniest video’s online via Freddyo.com and youtube. Why you starting Gyant, you ask?

What can I say; apparently I’m a glutton for punishment. But the ish is funny.

ATL Blog: Natina Reed of Blaque A Victim of Wreckless Gossip Blog, Claims of Prostitution & Cocaine are FALSE!

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Gossip blogs completely defamed former Blaque member Natina Reed yesterday after reports began to surface that the colorful singer was arrested for prostitution and possession of a closed substance.

Bossip.com posted an “exclusive” on the story with all sorts of sordid details on the arrest. Too bad their claims were completely wrong.

Per The Angry Lez W/ No Soul:

A gossip blog, which shall remain nameless, decided to use this former celebrity’s unfortunate situation to gain a few hits by doctoring the original arrest report to show that Reed had been arrested for drug possession and prostitution.
Those charges are patently false.

When Reed’s former band member Brandy Harris was reached for a comment, she expressed surprise at the fake charges.

Harris said she was “shocked” to hear that a blog Photoshopped Reed’s police report to include charges that were not on the original arrest report. She said her thoughts and Prayers go out to Natina because “now [the false charges are] out there on the Internet.”

I will reserve my opinion about certain blogs manipulating stories for blog hits. All I will say is to make sure you know what you’re supporting. There’s a difference in getting the story wrong, and creating something just to cause celebrity havoc.

To be clear Reed was not arrested for prostitution or cocaine charges. Got it? Good.

Blog Beef: Perez Hilton Drops Assault Charges Against Black Eyed Peas Manger After Public Apology!

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

perez_hilton_bruised_face_will_i_am_470x204

In yet another example of why Perez Hilton needs to be destroyed, Black Eyed Peas manager Liborio Molina apologized to the celebrity blogger as part of a plea agreement.

In a statement read by Molina’s lawyer outside of court, the respected music-industry veteran wrote the following generic statement, “I apologize for what I did on June 22 of 2009, even though you engaged in highly offensive comments … I acknowledge that these kinds of issues should not be resolved through a physical response,’ the apology read.

Very heartfelt.

Hilton told The Associated Press in an e-mail he was happy Molina had accepted responsibility for his actions.

“I look forward to reading his letter of apology,” Hilton said in the e-mail.

Molina has also agreed not to contact Hilton except through his lawyer, not to carry any weapons for 12 months and not to come within 100 meters (100 yards) of the night club where the dispute took place.

He was also required to donate $500 Canadian (US$476) to charity.

While I’m glad both parties can walk away and close this unfortunate chapter on their lives, I personally think that bloggers need to act more responsibly or run the risk of getting dealt with.

The notion that, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but works can never hurt me, ” simply isn’t true. But I guess the circle that surrounds Perez is impenetrable, thus he can say whatever he wants with little to no remorse.

So conflicted about this.

Sound Off: Artists & Managers Needs To Read This!

Friday, July 17th, 2009

question-mark

Often times I receive hundreds of emails requesting blog media coverage to promote an artist, tastemaker or,  entertainment business ventures. Normally as long as the event caters to the bloggers demographic it gets done. Well at least over here!

However, there is a video shoot that’s taking place today by a newly signed artist to a major label, that I refuse to attend due to certain faux movers and shakers/managers in the game.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again; a lot of today’s artists are where they are because of the people they employ.

It should go without saying that if you’re an entertainer, particularly a new one, you don’t piss off the press. Ive been involved in countless situations where label heads and managers try to smooth things over with me because I waste no time airing somebody their artist over their poor attitude, and utterly stupid mistakes. But, I’ll take it one step further and say that you definitely don’t want to piss off the modern-day gatekeepers to the fans – a blogger!

Well it seems that this one manager hasn’t gotten that memo, because for the first time in my career someone has managed to get up under my skin worse than Alex Gideon.

Question: How are you a manager – or hell even a mover & shaker – in this game if you don’t have $$$, or make false promises with no intention on following through?

Silly me, I thought that a manager is supposed to “manage” a situation and have discretionary funds to help out their clients to get them to the next level. Silly me. Maybe I am the one who has it all wrong.

But what isn’t silly is how this artists “manager” reached out to Gyantunplugged.com for some positive media coverage and new media services for a party he was throwing. However, it quickly became clear that this dude hype was just that..hype. I will spare you the seedy details, but lets just say that a man is only as good as his word. If you don’t have that – you don’t have anything.

And as a result of me being bullshitted beyond belief I can no longer support, nor standby, this artist. I mean that would indirectly help out hiis management team. And I can’t have that. Can I?

On one hand I fux with this star, hard! But, on the other if you make it your goal to take a blogger to task over unpaid services [and we're talking peanuts people] then i feel everybody gets what they deserve – directly or non.

But while I was pondering my current problem, it dawned on me that maybe a whole lot more artists and managers are  being lead by misinformation. So let me break it down:

Managers: If you owe a blogger money – you’re not getting luv on their site.

Artists, if your managers owe media any money – you’re not getting any luv on their site.

Managers: If you’re outfit cost more then the cash you have in your pocket – get more people behind your marketing campaign because we don’t believe you.

Artists: Be very careful of the people you surround yourself with in your quest to become the next big thing. Often times the people around will burn bridges that you yourself are trying to build.

Managers: Remember the hands you leave empty today just might be the hand you’ll need tomorrow to promote your artist.

Artists and Managers: AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, Remember that you’ll need bloggers/the press more then they will ever need you. So make it your mission to keep them in the highest regard.

Epic Fail = manager. Sucks to be you = artist.

After observing more recent events, I am convinced, now more then ever, that a lot of today’s artists are doomed over the shady people they employ.

Blog Beef: Samuel L. Jackson Vs Bloggers??

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Top Hollywood box office King Samuel L. Jackson is fighting mad!

In a new interview, Jackson admits that he loves to read reviews about himself online, but is not happy with the anonymity of bloggers.

“All these people can sit at home and can blog. They can say bad things about you online and you don’t know who they are but they know who I am,’ he said.

“It’s totally unfair. I know my face, you know my face. I want to see YOU.  Meet me at this place here and let’s have that discussion: ‘What did you mean washed up and always yelling and screaming?” Jackson charged.

“And if you don’t believe it’s me call this number.’ I enjoy engaging critics in that way.”

I think Sam should be careful what he wishes for. He might his get his feeling hurt even more. Or worse; a stalker!
