There’s idiotic and then there’s Home Depot.
Today as I was finishing up a conference call scrolling twitter, a weird picture scrolled down my Time Line. Initially I let it roll down. But after replaying it in my head I realized something wasn’t right.
After scrolling up, I came to notice that Fortune 500 company Home Depot, had posted a ridiculous pot shot that was at the expense of its African-American customers.
I will not inflame the blog with sharply crafted adjectives inciting emotion. I will simply post the picture Home Depot so brazenly added to their social media account. See Above.
Your eyes do not deceive. This longstanding company, whom I used to work for before getting into the land of blogging, posted “Which Drummer is Not Like The Other?”
Yes people Home Depot compared two willing African-Americans to that of a ape-like costume. Im sure to any African-American the implications of such a photo is so deeply rooted in racism it’s almost dubious to comprehend.
Clearly shocked by the response of the people, Home Depot released a statement moments ago:
But does the company, who clearly doesn’t have the good judgement to hire competent people to manage their social media properties, be given a pass for such racist rhetoric? I can’t answer that for you. I can only answer it for myself.
I am disgusted and horrified to which racism still breeds in this country like an ant farm. While I don’t make into Home Depot much, after this I think Ill be going to Ace Hardware or Loews.
